Soprano, Ms. Kay Griffel attended Northwestern University and studied with Madame Lotte Lehmann in Santa Barbara. She debuted at Lyric Opera and went to Europe on a Dank Stipendium in Berlin and sang in Europe for 22 years, the last of those were in Cologne where she sang Arabella, Ariadne, Fiordiligi, The Countess in the Marriage of Figaro, Ellen Orford, Eva in Die Meistersinger, Mimi, Madama Butterfly just to name a few.
Ms. Griffel guested in many of the German Opera houses: Hamburg, Muenchen, Stuttagart, Frankfurt, Duesseldorf, Staatsoper, Berlin, and also guested in Italy, Spain, Russia, England, Wales, Japan, New Zealand and Santiago, Chile (Marschallin), and America (Houston, Los Angeles, New York.)
Ms. Griffel sang at the Metropolitan Opera and her debut was Ellettra in IDOMENEO, following performances were Arabella, Tatjana, The Countess in FiGARO and Rosalinde.
After returning to the United States she taught privately and worked with the Dayton and Cincinnati operas, coaching their young artist programs. She also taught at Michigan and Ohio State Universities as a guest artist and voice teacher. Ms. Griffel has judged Metropolitan Auditions in Chicago and many of the Dayton opera competitions.
She currently resides in the glorious state of Colorado.
