Mexican-American baritone, Robert Cardwell was one of the recipients of Amarillo Opera’s ‘Mila Gibson Fund for Young Artist Awards’ in 2010 and was named the ‘Edward Baird Singer of the Year’ at the Texoma Region Convention of the National Association of Teachers of Singing in 2009. During his time in the Texas Panhandle, he received numerous scholarships, as well as several favorable reviews for his operatic roles with WTAMU Opera and Amarillo Opera. Mr. Cardwell’s roles include the title roles in Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte, Falke Die Fledermaus, Hosie Cold Sassy Tree, and Monterone Rigoletto. Robert covered the role of Marcello in Amarillo Opera’s production of Puccini’s La Boheme. Future engagements include The Duke in Romeo et Juliette with the University of North Texas Opera. In January of this year, Mr. Cardwell made his role debut as Giorgio Germont in La Traviata.
