Darlene James Clark is a mezzo soprano and an accomplished teacher. Her students are performing in venues countrywide, and many are in advanced vocal programs in universities. Ms. Clark has performed with Opera Omaha, Houston Grand Opera, Opera in the Heights, Theatre Under the Stars, The Brenham Choral Society, IIVA in Brescia, Italy, and has sung oratorios in many churches in the greater Houston area.
She was awarded the Helen Andress Award in competition at Shreveport Opera, was a scholarship recipient to IIVA in Italy. She has sung under the baton of many famous conductors, including Patrick Summers, Daniel Oren, Christoph Eschenbach, Lawrence Foster and others, and she performed in world premieres of such operas as Willie Stark by Carlisle Floyd, A Quiet Place by Leonard Bernstein, Ahknaten and Juniper Tree by Philip Glass, and other Floyd works including The Passion of Johnathan Wade and Cold Sassy Tree.
Her performing career has spanned 35 years, and she has been teaching private vocal instruction for over 20 years. She attended Houston Baptist University.
